Varsity Boys Head Coaches:  Shawn LeBar & Clay Wilson

The co-coaches for the Green Country Boys Varsity are Shawn LeBar, who is returning for his fourth season, and Clay Wilson, who is joining Green Country for his first season.

Shawn LeBar Coaching & Athletic Background

In 2014-15 season, Shawn successfully helped lead the boys to a 28 – 13  winning season, competing in the Gold Ball Championship of the NCHBC National Tournament where the boys won the Silver Ball in the Class A Division.  This was the first season the Defenders had the honor of being ranked #13 homeschool varsity boys team nationally.  This accomplishment is historic for Green Country as it is the first time the boys have appeared in the Top 20 in the end-season National Rankings!

In the 2015-16 Season, Shawn continued as assistant coach and helped lead the varsity boys to a NCHBC National Championship game and win the GOLD Ball.  This season earned the Green Country Defenders a top 10 national ranking. In 2016-17, Shawn served as head coach, with the team winning a Silver Ball at the NCHBC National Tournament.

Clay Wilson Athletic & Coaching Background

Clay Wilson has played basketball since he was 3 years old. He began playing basketball at the local YMCA before he went on to play at Lincoln Christian School in Tulsa Oklahoma. During his time in high school Clay played for Athletes First AAU team and played in the prestigious NIKE National Peach Jam tournament. He was recruited by several BCS schools, including Duke, Clemson, Virginia, Kansas, USC, OU, and Minnesota, and received over 30 Division 1 offers. Clay ended up choosing to go to Princeton University in the Ivy League, where he played four seasons. After college Clay went on to play professional basketball in Germany for 2 seasons.

Clay is excited to bring his basketball knowledge and experience to Green Country. He states, “Several people invested in me when I was growing up, and I feel extremely fortunate to be able to give back to the local youth and invest in this team. Our goal is daily improvement, and I am excited about the potential of this team.”

Lady Defenders Head Coach:  Stephanie Hough

Nationals 2015 time outGreen Country’s head coach for the girl’s varsity is Stephanie Hough. She is founder of GCD and that first year coached a group of 16 and under girls that eventually won the NCHBC 4A National Championship for 16U girls.   Now, beginning her 8th season (2016-2017), Coach Hough has successfully coached several graduating classes and has helped girls from each class obtain college basketball scholarships to continue their basketball careers past high school.
