Big wins for Green Country Defenders at NCHBC South Central Regional Championships
The Green Country Defenders had a tremendous showing at the NCHBC South Central Regional Championships! The girls 18U and the boys 18U are both Regional Champions. The girls 16U are also Regional Champions. The boys 16U finished second and the boys 14U finished fifth.
The girls 18U defeated Saline County 49-36 in the first game. A resounding victory over Faulkner County 71-18 in the second game. On Saturday they notched one of the biggest victories of the season knocking off perennial powerhouse and regional favorite MHEA by a score of 40-36 and they finished out the day with a victory over the Springfield RUSH 49-40 capturing the Green Country Varsity Girls second regional championship ever!
The boys first game against Wright County got off to a slow start for the Defenders, and at the end of three quarters, the Defenders were down 18 points. The boys rallied in the 4th quarter and out-scored Wright County 39-15 to win the game 73-67. In the semi-finals the Defenders looked to knock off the two seed and avenge a defeat earlier in the season. This game was tight all the way and went into overtime where the Defenders persevered and beat the Little Rock Flames 74-70. The championship game matched the Defenders against the Ft. Smith Patriots. This game was never in doubt as the Defenders took the lead early in the first quarter 4-3 and led the rest of the game eventually winning 71-57. This is the Varsity Boys first-ever regional championship!
